Stamped and stained concrete are both popular ways to dress up a plain gray slab, but they solve different problems. Stamping changes the texture and pattern of the concrete — replicating stone, brick, or wood-plank — while staining changes only the color, leaving the surface texture as-is (unless combined together).
Stamped concrete tends to make more sense for driveways, entryways, and patios where you want the visual impact of pavers or natural stone without the higher price tag and long-term joint maintenance. Staining is a great option when the existing slab is in good shape but looks dated, or when you want a more subtle, natural variegated color rather than a repeating pattern.
Both finishes need to be sealed, and in Florida's sun and rain, we recommend resealing every 2-3 years regardless of which option you choose — that's what protects the color and prevents the surface from looking chalky or faded.
